A Vertical Carousel is an automated solution that resembles a giant customized vending machine for your tools, parts, and/or inventory. It consists of rotating shelves in fixed locations to a chain drive & works on the ferris wheel principal. Movement is powered by a motor, which sends the carriers in a vertical loop around a track in both forward and reverse directions. Used vertical carousel storage systems are just as good as new ones but less than half the cost.

Advantages of the Vertical Carousel

One of the unique and compelling features of a Vertical Carousel is that it utilizes unused overhead space and stores items by stacking them vertically (up to 10m). Standard shelving stacks items vertically to just within arms’ reach, then they are multiplied laterally taking up a lot of floor space. Storing vertically not only saves a lot of space, but also saves employee time and energy in locating items as they are delivered directly to the operator.

Which type of system do I need?

Vertical Carousel storage systems have a series of carriers (shelves) supported by chains either side that rotate vertically in a loop like a ferris wheel. The shelves stop in front of a bench where the operator can pick from an ergonomic height. Shelves can be open or divided into sub-shelves which have a series of parts trays with dividers in them. The shelves are a fixed height. The footprint of a vertical carousel is much smaller than a vertical lift module. It is controlled by a PC & PLC with software that is easy to use. We have a large selection of used vertical carousels available. They are less than half the cost of a new machine.

VLM (Vertical Lift Module) storage systems have a series of drawers (trays) that are picked up by an extractor (Lift), height is scanned & deposited into slots in the machine. These systems consist of two rows of slotted supports front & back which contain trays that are transported by an extractor from the supports to the picking bay.

As the tray goes in the height of the product is scanned. Then the tray is deposited into a vacant slot in the machine. It is controlled by a hardware and software system that is very easy to use.
